In early March 2023, Vanuatu was hit by a rare double cyclone event. The storms left a trail of destruction across the island nation, forcing thousands of families from their homes.

The entire country has been declared a disaster zone and initial reports indicate that 80% of the country was affected, including 125,500 children.

Weeks later, communities affected by this disaster are still in urgent need of support.

Act for Peace’s trusted local partner, the Vanuatu Christian Council (VCC), are helping to meet the needs of their local community.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, VCC managed its two evacuation centres, distributed food, shelter kits, hygiene kits and jerrycans to families housed there.

With many still unable to return home, VCC continue to meet the urgent needs of those impacted by these storms.

For over 10 years, Act for Peace has worked in partnership with VCC, helping communities in Vanuatu prepare for disasters just like the one they are living through today. They have provided lifesaving evacuation training, established disaster response plans, and set up disaster response committees.

This long-term work will have likely saved lives over the weekend. But right now, they need our help to help meet the immediate needs of those impacted by this emergency.

Please give urgently today, and help our partner in Vanuatu to provide shelter, clean water and psycho-social support to those in need.

Thank you for once again responding with love to provide urgent relief to those who need it.
