INDIA COVID-19 EMERGENCY APPEAL

India COVID-19 Emergency Appeal

You only need to turn on the news to see the scale of human suffering that’s unfolding in India right now. One month ago there were 89,129 new daily COVID-19 cases recorded. Today that number has more than tripled.

There’s not enough beds, oxygen, or ventilators to keep up with the scale of the crisis. Authorities are recording 3,780 deaths each day, but the real numbers are likely even higher.

Our local partner, the Organisation for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation (OfERR) are on the frontline of this emergency right now. They have been supporting and protecting Sri Lankan refugees in camps across Chennai in the south of India for over 35.

Now, with a health system on the brink of collapse, they’re putting their lives at risk to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the camps and save lives.

They need our support. Please give urgently today.

The sheer scale of the crisis has left OfERR’s staff physically and emotionally drained, trying to meet the needs of the communities they serve. Heartbreakingly, in the last couple of weeks one of OfERR’s own colleagues passed away from COVID-19.

Despite all this, OFERR are doing all they can to protect refugee families through this crisis.

But they need support. Please help them deliver vital medical support and supplies to refugees.

OfERR urgently need more:

  • Protective clothing and equipment for their staff so they can safely deliver health services and supplies in the camps.
  • Food supplies to help refugees with COVID-19 to self-isolate within their community to stop the spread.
  • Medicine for chronically ill patients in the camps so they don’t have to visit overwhelmed hospitals.
  • Oxygen Monitoring Machines for the camps so they can safely monitor oxygen levels, helping to lift the burden on the health system.
  • Counselling over the phone so refugees can access medical advice if they’re experiencing symptoms.

Your emergency gift will go directly to supporting OfERR’s COVID-19 response in the refugee camps and help these communities survive over the difficult weeks ahead.

So please, give generously and make a huge difference and help our partner and families in the camps get through this unfolding tragedy.
