BEIRUT emergency

Lebanon Emergency: Help Families who have lost their homes.

On 4 August a warehouse at the Beirut Port containing large quantities of ammonium nitrate exploded. The blast has left thousands of families’ across the city without their belongings and unable to return to their damaged homes. Many more no longer have homes to go back to.

We are working with our local partner to offer lifesaving aid to the most affected families but we are struggling to reach everyone who needs help.

Official governmental reports estimate that more than 250 people have been killed, with over 5,000 injured and more than 300,000 left homeless.

The need is overwhelming. A quick response will save lives.

Hundreds of buildings including grain silos storing around 85% of the country’s grain, and numerous residential places have been damaged or destroyed, along with several major hospitals.

The blast could not have come at a worse time for Lebanon. The country was already facing economic collapse before the tragedy, which has been exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic. The blast has damaged many of the healthcare facilities which were already struggling to cope with the pandemic.

Hospitals are now overloaded with casualties with many ICUs already at maximum capacity with COVID-19 patients.

Our local partner the Department of Services to Palestinian Refugees (DRPR) is already working on the ground to get supplies to those in most urgent need.

Please help them get emergency aid to survivors.

They are providing households who have partially or totally lost their homes with emergency food packages, hygiene supplies along with protective items like sanitiser, hygiene kits and household cleaning materials to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

DSPR are also planning a cleaning campaign run by volunteers to help households whose homes are full of rubble and dust, regain their homes and return to normalcy as soon as possible.

Your gifts mean our partners can reach families quickly and help them survive this catastrophe.

So please, give generously today and help families in Beirut to survive.
