Haiti

Recent Conflict

In 2004, Haiti experienced a significant rebellion that left the country in turmoil.  As a result of perceptions of fraudulent elections and a corrupt government, a rebel group began a war that took guerrilla forces within miles of the capital.  The president of the country fled in the face of this violence and opposition, and an international peacekeeping force was called in to maintain order as the country fell into disarray after the violence.  A general election occurred in 2006, but Haiti is still a long way from stability.
