Carol services and cookie sales; private prayer and public collections;
bustling fundraisers and humble giving. This Christmas you came together
as churches, communities and individuals to form a bridge of love and
compassion between those who have enough and those who have too little.
Karen McGrath/Act for Peace
This year, the support you showed was truly incredible. Thanks to your amazing generosity, the Christmas Bowl is on track to raise more than $2.4 million. It’s a true outpouring of love and compassion that makes a real difference to the lives of so many people. Your gifts will mean that refugee mothers in Ethiopia can get the clean water they need to save their children from deadly diseases, and support other lifechanging projects around the world. Here’s a small selection of the wonderfulChristmas Bowl events that were organised around the nation by Act for Peace supporters like you. How your gifts are helping: Akula camp, Ethiopia
The people living in Akula camp, Ethiopia, have fled terrible conflict in Southern Sudan. Without simple necessities like soap, toilets and clean water, they are at risk from deadly diseases like Hepatitis E.
Thanks to your generosity, the old, unsanitary toilets that were attracting flies and disease have been cleared away and new toilet blocks with hand washing facilities have been built in their place. The camp’s broken water pump has also been repaired, meaning that families can now access safe, clean water. Each family has also received soap to keep their hands clean and prevent disease. Many people in Akula camp never had the chance to go to school, so your gifts are training refugees in hygiene and sanitation to keep their families safe from disease.
More ways to take action
Help keep families at risk from landslides safe by providing training in disaster risk reduction in schools. Training helps children to identify risks and warning signs of landslides, and teaches them how to keep safe if one happens.
Take the Act for Peace Ration Challenge and eat the same rations as a Syrian refugee during Refugee Week (19-26 June 2016). Raise money to support refugees who have lost everything, and challenge perspectives – including your own.
Right now, thousands of innocent people are fleeing Syria every day to protect their families from bloodshed, violence and death. We need your support to provide emergency relief packs to the families fleeing in Syria.
