Peace Mails are stories from one of the people or communities that your gifts are helping. Each month we hear a new story from around the world. Peace Mails are sent to Act for Peace partners who support this work with their regular monthly gifts.
Below you can find the latest Peace Mail, as well as past editions, which document the incredible work being supported by Act for Peace Partners. To find out more about becoming an Act for Peace Partner, please click here.
Volume 8, Issue 11: A helping hand to asylum seekers in Australia
 |
Aisha* is 22 year old woman whose family belongs to a persecuted political minority in Ethiopia. After she was harassed and then raped by police because of her political involvement, Aisha’s family insisted she leave Ethiopia and arranged a ticket for her to come to Australia. She did not want to but was convinced that she had no choice. Aisha* knows she can’t go home and must try to make a new life here.
In Australia, Aisha came into contact with the House of Welcome, which works with refugees and asylum seekers to nurture hope, advocate for justice and to build their self-reliance. Click here to read more about Aisha’s story, and about how the House of Welcome has helped her to find accommodation, psychological support, and help in learning English – all of which aim to help her, and others like her, to adjust to life in Australia and to live safely and happily here. |
