This gift will give Sri Lankan refugees - who were forced to flee during the civil war - the chance to finally return home. It will assist families with travel and administrative costs to apply for and obtain civil documents in Sri Lanka.
Brutal conflict in Sri Lanka forced families to flee to India in search of safety. Now after years of living in a refugee camp in India, many Sri Lankan refugee families are preparing to return home. But one of the biggest hurdles to being allowed to resettle in Sri Lanka is having the proper documentation, which families may have been forced to leave behind when fleeing from the conflict.
To secure government services like medical care, education and transport, returning refugees need a national ID card. To gain a national ID card, a person must produce documents including a birth certificate and marriage certificate.
Your gift will help a refugee to obtain the documentation they need to resettle in their homeland as a citizen and resume their life there – something they may have hoped for and dreamed about for many years.
