Our Partners are Currently Saving Lives in and Around Port-au-Prince

Act for Peace partners in Haiti continue their dedicated response to the devastation caused by the 7.0 magnitude quake which reduced the impoverished Caribbean nation to rubble in January. The response to date has saved thousands of lives and the endurance of our partners will continue long into the future to ensure Haiti’s road to recovery.

The Australian community has opened their hearts and dug deep for the people of Haiti, but the plight of these long suffering people is set to continue if support does not continue after the media's attention has grown weary of Haiti's immense need.

Our partners are working with Haitians to ensure their self-reliance and move toward a sustainable recovery beyond the provision of immediate aid.

Our partners are coordinating activities in 9 communities of the Port-au-Prince neighborhoods and Nippes (Miragoane). They are currently providing food, tents, hygiene kits, blankets, jerry cans and water purifiers to 15,000 people.

Our partners also plan to distribute a further 34 tons of relief materials to Port-au-Prince including four million water purification tablets, jerry cans, tarpaulins, blankets and enough healthcare kits to last 10,000 people for three months.

Partners is St Therese (Petion Ville), Gressier, Leogane and Ti Goave are planning to assist 30,000 people with emergency distributions of food, interventions in water, sanitation and health,
shelter and psychosocial care, and later in livelihood and cash for work activities. Our partners will also provide support to spontaneous settlements in the South East.

Partners operating in Greater Bel Air and Cité Soleil will directly assist 24,000 people left homeless from the earthquake with water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter, basic health care, psychosocial assistance and livelihood rehabilitation including cash for work and disaster risk reduction activities.

The Recovery and Rehabilitation Response: The Next 4 - 12 Months in Haiti
