Act for Peace Welcomes Dollar for Dollar Initiative

Act for Peace welcomes the Federal Government’s new Dollar for Dollar initiative which will see the government match individual donations to Australian NGO appeals for East Africa.
The initiative, launched by Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd this morning, will run from today to November 30.
The need for assistance in the region remains acute. More than 13 million people require urgent humanitarian aid, and in Somalia 750,000 people are at risk of starvation. Every day, about 1,000 hungry refugees arrive in Mogadishu and the recent increase in the number of cases of measles and diarrhoea is causing great concern.
Act for Peace Executive Director Alistair Gee said, “This announcement means more lifesaving assistance can be delivered to people who are facing a desperate situation. For our supporters, it means that a gift goes much further.”
Gifts to Act for Peace’s appeal will support our project partners in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya who are distributing food packages and water, improving water supplies and providing supplementary food for malnourished children.
